I feel so bad for him and it’s Christmas, of course so i can’t go to the store to buy him anything until tomorrow. Is there anything i can give him for now to help him out.
p.s should i start buying him wet food? he’s been on a dry food diet pretty much since i got him (he’s 5 months)

I’m not a big fan of dry food and feed mine very, very little. Too many health problems. If you don’t have canned pumpkin, try a little Metamucil (or other psyillium husk product) as this works great also. Olive oil may help, but the oil is usually metabolized before it gets to the obstruction. And yes, wet food is really the better choice.
Do you have any pure canned pumpkin laying around? Not the pumpkin imitation mix, but 100% pure canned pumpkin? Spoon a bit of that into his food or into a can of tuna and let him eat it. Pumpkin is pretty much amazing for regulating the digestive tract; it’ll have him going in no time.
You might also try giving him a bit of mineral oil in his food.
Dry food is acceptable, but wet is better for cats, especially if they are male. It’s your call.
Dry food is better for a cat. Try putting a teaspoon of olive oil over the food and see if that helps loosen things up.
Buy some canned pumpkin when the stores open. Not the pie filling but plain. Most cats will eat it as a treat & it adds fiber to the diet. Meantime, try some vegetable oil mixed with a bit of tuna if you have it & try to get him to drink some extra fluids. Milk causes diarrhea in cats & as a rule, shouldn’t be given. But maybe a tiny amount will loosen things up. Also if you had turkey, give him a bit of the fatty skin.
As for canned food, I’ve had cats that never ate anything but dry their whole lives. The cats I have now don’t drink much water so they get a bit of canned food twice a day & have dry available 24/7. Not enough water can cause constipation & canned food will get extra moisture into him.
pumpkin pie filling is good for constipation
actually, it was commonly thought that dry was better b/c it would clean cats teeth. but now they have found that most cats just swallow the bits whole. so now vets are recommending wet food or at least wet and dry mix. wet is higher in protein which is great b/c cats are carnivores (unlike dogs which are opportunistic carnivores and really omnivores).
grocery brand dry foods also are more likely to cause kidney problems in cats
Either plain canned pumpkin, or Metamucil. Mineral oil may help, or may not. And yes, canned food will help very much. If a cat’s prone to constipation, dry food makes it worse. They need as much moisture as possible.
