tmj surgery?
has anybody ever got tmj surgery, i'm worried because from researching on the internet i've found that its a relitivaly new surgery and there a great chance of something going wrong or getting little or no possitive results. i've had it many years at the start it was just neck pain and occasional headache, as time went on other problems arose sinus, shoulder pain, numbness in my hands and fingers, presure in my ears, eyes and temble, aswell as tinnitus and the most annoying ear poping.
i've always being able to cope with the pain and discomfert untill it got worst after a tooth extraction in january of this year, i've come to a realisation that its going to get worse if i don't adress it any am wondering if anyone has any experience with tmj or tmd or tmj surgery

yes i have TMJ but i grind my teeth and clench them at night. i use a nightguard and at the moment am wearing braces & elastics and sometimes i wear headgear. im getting jaw surgery to fix this problem as its ever so annoying my jaw clicks when i eat, talk basically whenever i move my mouth. so its getting fixed. the surgery isnt just new they ahve just found new ways to improving it. my sister (who is now an orthodontic consultant) had it done last year it worked for her and im having mine at the end of the year. im only 14 and my problem is bad.
it helps sooooooooo much apparently my sister feels no pain anymore and recommends it to all her patients. get it done now before you wreck the bone surrounding the jaw joint :>
Hello, I work with a dentist that does TMJ. It probably won't get worse but the pain might not go away forever. Just make sure you go to someone HIGHLY recommended. Ask the doctor for some testimonials from other patients with your condition. The doctor I work with doesn't do surgery he uses little pads fixed to the jaw that give the muscles jolts (doesn't hurt) and then he fits them with an orthodic device that will realign their occlusion (the way their teeth fit together). He has success with some people and others come back a year later with the same issues. Sorry I couldn't help more but this type of dentistry/surgery is very sketchy. A lot of doctors in the dental community don't believe in TMJ at all.
Find a good doctor, ask for testimonials and make your decision then. Good Luck!
ewwwwwwwwww
I have TMJ and have recently had my second jaw surgery to correct the problems with my mouth. I had the surgery two weeks ago so I can't tell you about the results but it wasn't that bad. I didn't take any painkillers after surgery just advil so the pain hasn't been that bad. You should go and see an oral surgeon and talk to him/her about your options of what to do the only drawback is I can't chew for 6 weeks which at times is difficult but in the longrun I hope will be totally worth it
