Tinnitus Archives

For 7 1/2 yrs. now, I've been wondering why my ears were so sensitive to certain sounds. I asked doctors, & they didn't have a clue why my ears were so sensitive. Saturday, I googled SENSITIVE EARS, & the Hyperacusis condition came up.

When people chew loudly, like smack on their food or gum or pop & snap/click their gum, suck hard on candy, the sound of someone trimming their nails, certain outside machinery, chainsaws, loud cars/trucks, yelling, screeching the chalkboard, etc. (You get the picture.) Hurts my ears badly enough to where I feel temporarily deaf, like my ears are numb for 2 hrs., they hurt INTENSELY, & I get a migraine headache, & my shoulders, neck, & back start hurting. It hurts bad enough to make me cry. It startles me & makes me lose my temper & triggers me off to have an anxiety attack. It's disabling for me because everywhere I go, people are doing that, & I have trouble leaving my house. When I ask people to stop with the gum, they think I'm crazy.

How can I treat Hyperacusis and Tinnitus?

I’ve been having this problem for awhile now. My ear doctor can never find the cause. And he is a specialist ENT. I had this for years and finally went on google and searched and came up with hyperacusis and tinnitus. When I am near loud music my ear tends to make a whoosing sound, sometimes it pops, and sometimes it makes a cracking sound. I am not sure why but I want it to stop its very annoying. Even a low sound still aggravates it. Today I was in class for a lecture. Teacher is lecturing and my right ear starting popping and whoosing and stuff. Teacher ask me a question and I didnt get it cause of that whoosing sound. Can anyone help me figure out how to treat this problem? I am very determined to get this fix right away.
It causes me to miss 25% of the lecture cause of the whooshing sound.

How serious is pulsatile tinnitus?

It's been happening on-and-off for as long as I can remember, years and years. Recently it's gotten a lot worse, with frequent occurrences (usually 8-10 hours long) each week. It's not always constant – it can also go on for several minutes, stop for a minute, then continue. Often when this is happening, any noises at all around me (even the sound of my typing or people talking at normal volume in the next room over) will cause a sympathetic "boom" in my ear (I don't know how else to describe it…it's the same sound as the heartbeat, but in time to outside noises instead of my pulse). It most commonly happens in my left ear alone, but occasionally in both ears at once. I've also recently noticed a hearing issue – I can hear fine, both very high and very low sounds, but I have trouble differentiating between sounds (any background noise at all can cause me miss what people say). I am not stressed at all. I have perfect blood pressure, perfect cholesterol… I'm 22 yrs old, and female.
I do clean my ears of wax regularly, using the warm water flushing method, and I'm sure it's not a build-up of that.

I've suffered from tinnitus for more than ten years now, but in the last few years symptoms have really started to take a turn for the worse and now the condition has become quite painful physically. I experience constant earaches, headaches, soreness/tingling, and occasional vertigo (though no insomnia). Anyone know of any alternative remedies (e.g. acupuncture, herbal medicines, etc.,) that may help?
Let me elaborate a bit….I know what caused my tinnitus: it was my years and years of constant headphone use (something which has made me feel like a bit of a spokesperson for people who use I-pods).

There's no question about that because I've never had any tumors and I don't suffer Meniere's Disease.

I think the original symptoms (while somewhat alarming) didn't really bother me. Only since the physical pain started has this really started to make life difficult.

How do you relieve pulsatile tinnitus?

Can my hyperacusis make my tinnitus worse?

im going to school soon, and im scared that all the loud noises which make my ear vibrate(hyperacusis) could worsen my tinnitus. is this true or not, because i dont want to be worsening my tinnitus.

Is pulsatile tinnitus serious?

I just found out that I most likely have pulsatile tinnitus. (thumping sensations in the ear that go along with heartbeat) most of it is linked to vascular abnormalities near the ear. I just want to know if this is something that I should have checked aby a doctor.

I have been to the ENT and have a MRI scheduled for tommorrow, but I want to hear from people with personal experience.

I am 99.99999999% postive that i have tinnitus. I really think its subjective tinnitus though (only I can hear the ringing).

Ok,
Tinnitus (tentin I tuss) is a condition caused by all sorts of things. mostly by loud objects for a long period of time.

My mom thinks im a "hypocondreact" just because i have found out that im not physicaly normal.

I don't have Tinnitus, so I can't check. I am wondering, if someone with Tinnitus can do a little test. Close your eyes, and ask someone you know to snap their fingers, hit 2 coins together, or any other small sound above, in front, below, and behind your head – and let me know if you can tell the difference between the audio positions with your eyes closed.
Thanks.

Can anyone tell me about pulsatile tinnitus?

It is like a loud heartbeat in my ear…it has been happening on and off for about 2 years now. I did a little searching online and it said it could be pulsatile tinnitus….has anyone else been diagnosed with this, and how does the doc check to see if that is what you have?

also…it is in my right ear,and if I press on my neck below my ear it stops…is that weird?
