I am extremely determined to become a cop. I think I have all the successful qualities that make a good police officer, but I have "a little problem." I am naturally born with a hearing loss. I'm seeking an A.S. in criminal justice and possibly a B.S.. Does anyone know if someone like myself, can get hired as a cop regardless of a minor disability?

I have mild hearing loss in one ear, extremely (to the point of insanity) protective over my ears and what's left of them.
I worry about mixing down a track, but then often think of Brian Wilson who was deaf in one ear. I think there's somebody who I can look up to.
I'm wondering what other musicians are doing to cope.

A couple years ago i went and got this test done that checked for nerve damage in my ears. They found nerve damage in my left ear. My mom notice something was wrong when i was a baby. But they didn't know all of this. I have deafness. It is mild to moderate hearing loss, 40 to 50 db loss. db=decibels.
brainstem auditory evoked response (BAER) test – can diagnose hearing ability and can indicate the presence of brain stem tumors and multiple sclerosis. Electrodes are placed on the scalp and earlobes. Auditory stimuli, such as clicking noises and tones, are delivered to one ear.
That is the testing i had done.
I wear a hearing aid for my left ear.
Also i am 21 years old.
I also have mild mental retardation, deafness, communication disorder, adhd, sensory issues.

went to my first concert ever 3 days ago. well after concert one ear was fine but was on one side of the room it was a small venue. was hanging out by table with my buddies band who opened. anyways my right ear which I do have tinnitus in already and some minor like 15db sound loss due to a gunshot at work(was construction worker using a machine that put nails into concrete using pretty much small caliber shells as propulsion.) anyways 3 days later i still have ringing in both ears and some muffledness in my right ear. so my question anyone else had this last for this long following a concert im sorta paranoid and hating that I took earplugs then never used them cause we were in the back and no one else was using earplugs. Im worried bout permanent hearing loss.

Someone told me once that there is a pill or vitamin/herb that can be taken to prevent further hearing loss. Does anyone know the name of it? Thanks.

Is premature birth one of the causes of hearing loss? I was a premmature baby I have 85% hearing loss in my left ear and my right ear hears 100%. It is also a nerve loss. I had bad ear infections when i was a kid. Could an ear infection cause a nerve loss?

I am naturally born with a hearing loss in both my ears. I may not ever enlist, however, just to know if this option applies to me, does anyone know if there is any requirement that a person needs perfect hearing to be a candidate of the U.S. Marines?
**the question is: Can a person with a slight hearing loss "Join," the Marines? Please excuse my spelling.

This has gotten increasingly worse over the years to the point that I had to quit golf. Now, at age 59, the hearing loss occurs when I simply bend over to pull weeds or to pick up the newspaper off the porch. It is often accompanied by Tinnitus (ringing and pulsating in my ear) It used to last anywhere from 2 hours to 2 days, but now it's pretty much all the time. It's almost like a have something pressing against my auditory nerves which acts up when I bend or twist. Any idea what could cause this and what treatment options are available? Thanks.

These spells used to last from 2 hours to 2 days, but now are pretty much all of the time. I'm not taking any ototoxic medications and my blood pressure is 120 over 80. Any ideas?

What causes my one ear to sometime have a high pitch ringing, and loss of hearing for about a minute at the most? It is also slightly blocked, and has been for over 2 months.

I've had meniere's disease for 6 years. I've had a shunt put in my ear and have had some hearing loss. I'm curious if anyone else who has this problem hears themselves when they talk. Sounds weird I know, but it's like an echo in my ear that sometimes drives me nuts. I was also not aware that this might cause problems throughout my life. I figured that the shunt would take care of everything, but within the past year I have had problems with labrynthitis and tinnitus. Anyone with any input would be helpful.

I lost custody of my daughter, had my house foreclosed on and cant hear very good. I dont want to be another homeless veteran!

What constitutes consistent exposure? What is tinnitus? Does the sufferer refuse to do anything about it, demanding instead that everyone who speaks to them must stop mumbling? Why do you suppose there is such a stigma about having hearing loss, given that so many people suffer from it?

I went to see Tim McGraw last night. I expected loud music of course but not this kind of loss. It took over a week for my hearing to return to normal after Kenny Chesney! I wished I had taken ear plugs.
I'm used to the muffling sound and the ears ringing. What bothers me is the pitch or tone that I can't hear this morning. The phone even sounds "squeaky" if that makes sense. When do you go to the doctor?
