I went to a silverstein concert last night and it was awesome. Now today my ears are ringing and I am having a hard time hearing what people say. I know ringing after a concert is normal but how long will it last and will it have perminate damage later on in life

hi,
i am an audiologist and therefore i deal with these issues regularly..
any loud sounds, more than 90 dB can be damaging to ears. concert sounds are around 120-130dB and it lasts more than 2 hrs, defenitely damaging..
these sounds affect outer hair cells in our inner ear.. and in the beginning they are temporary in nature, and as oxygen supply imporves, the outer hair cell return back to normal.. First symptom is tinnitus and hearing decrese..
The temporary phase lasts from 2hrs to 48 hrs.. wiht in that time if hearing do not return back to earlier level, then it tends to be permanent..
Smoking and drinking can worsen the situation.
If u get ur hearing tested now, u will see reduced levels for 3-4 kHz, amoount of reduction also will indicate amount of hearing loss u will have after repeated such exposures in 10 years of time….
Seeing a doctor and getting medications to improve blood circulation often helps during this early 48 hrs period.
take care

What an odd thing to do–you even admit that you aware of damage caused by load sounds—i suggest you save your money on silly concerts –and if you have the desire to damage you ears –stick a pencil in them that should do the trick
your problem may be temporary i have the same problem and it's lasted ovr 20 years all from shooting guns without any ear protection.
This is one cause of deafness.
I know loud concerts are awesome, but the loud noise can permanently affect your hearing.
Is it worth it?
Loud nosie can cause hearing loss. ringing in the ears from concerts is not uncommon, it usually stops. It is not always a sign of hearing loss but it can be. I use earplugs at loud concerts myself. I learned the hard way. I hate the after ringing that you are mentioning. I work in MRI and it is loud and we have to give everyone earplugs because loud noise CAN and DOES cause some hearing loss.
