Download of white noise to mask Tinnitus?
Anyone out there know where I can download some sound samples of the kind of "white noise" that can be played to lessen the effects of Tinnitus? I found that driving in my car makes me forget about the constant ringing in my ears for short periods. This is the only time this happens. Looking it up, it seems that there are several CD's with different sounds that offer this. I'd like to sample several before I try it. I've also heard of training courses that are available for helping one to ignore the ringing. It has brought my life to a stand still. Any help would be appreciated.

Most white noise CD's I've bought are either annoying or are repetitive loops. I've tried tinnitus therapy courses; I can assure you they are a gimmick. Don't waste your time and money on them.
http://www.whitenoisemp3s.com has excellent quality sounds, however. They're each one hour long and you can download them. Right before I hop into my bed every night I make sure to turn my speakers' volume up to medium and play "air conditioner hum" to help me sleep — it's very soothing and I swear my life by it.
They're especially cheap too at five bucks each.
Hey Buddy — First of all I feel really sorry you are going through this. I hope somehow you can eventually curtail your problem.
I'm not sure if this will help but Pzizz.com offers some pretty cool sounds, although they are specifically for helping you relax and fall asleep. You might want to check out their sample and see if it helps.
In addition I have see white noise machines at Bed and Bath and other such stores…
One thing you could do is make a tape or a minidisc of the television white noise or from another sound that helps and play it on repeat ad finitum (in case of a minidisc).
Best of Luck
