Does anyone know the reason for an occasional ringing in the ear?

You know the kind, you're not doing anything out of the ordinary and all of a sudden you hear a high pitched ring in your ear occurs. Kind of like the sound of one you hear during a hearing test.

You may be talking about tinnitus. Tinnitus can range from soft ringing or other background noise to loud noises. Usually this is due to hearing loss from damage to your ears. Damage can be temporary or permanent. For example… bad cold increases inflamation but when inflamation goes down the ringing may resolve but loud music can cause permanent damage.
On a side note…. I recently read a study from an Audiologist i work with that says loud music via headphones or speakers during workouts is even more dangerous since the blood flow is increased from dilated vessels during exercise… I hated that info since I love some loud music when I workout.
Merry Holidays!
PS I have it…. the Audiologist said most people do; it's not a bad idea to check your ears with a professional IF you notice hearing loss that effects you functionally… otherwise just try to keep it from getting worse for the long run
You musta been around alot of noise
Yeah it is your subconcious telling you "Someone is talking Shi* about you, right now"
WIth all the high frequency equipment out there, your eardrum is probably just resonating from one fo them. The ear reacts to noise, even if we don't understand or comprehend it.
yeah it happens to me ola time but i really don't know what's the reason maybe some nerves system
You might want to go to your family doc on that one. There is a hearing problem called titinitis that has that as a symptom.
hmm i have that alot… but i notice that everytime that happens someone has turned on a tv or has turned off a tv but its connected to a stereo and left that on… check that next time you get that check if anyone turned on a tv or something…
Tinnitus is not always a result of damaged ear. The tinnitus which occurs once in awhile can be from several sources.
1. Loud music or noise for a long period of time.
2. Change of elevation/altitude. Such as riding an elevator, airplane or traveling through the mountains.
3. Inner ear infection, head colds or other minor illnesses.
If the ringing is persistent and/or it last for several days, then there may be damage or other serious problems. Then it's time to visit your doctor.
I think it's cause your blood pressure is going up, i dunno I've heard that
When noise goes into your ear, your eardrums vibrate, sometimes after you hear a loud noise, even when it stops your eardrums are still vibrating which is probley that ringing in your ears.
